Research

We started with field observations across Atlanta to document cyclist behavior in different environments, then built an affinity map to identify patterns and narrow focus for interviews and a 177-person survey. Research used the AEIOU framework and included both bike owners and non-owners.

Interviews surfaced four distinct commuter types — each with different needs and barriers to regular bike commuting:

Driving insight: "Biking allows for greater versatility and flexibility in the type of commuter you can be."

The Design

The brief had four focus areas: systems approach to design, assessment of user behavior, Internet of Things, and brand development. The final design incorporated IoT technology and was developed alongside comprehensive brand work — visual identity, color palette, and design language.
